This research gallery is for you the collector. It is dedicated to Mike Hansen (aka) "2New". Mike is no longer a collector of Third Reich daggers and hang tags. He was an advanced collector and one of the first guys I meet via the internet back in 1999. Mike had a fantastic collection of daggers and hang tags and was at a minimum a motivated collector. Mike was a no bullshit kind of guy and called the ball where it fell. A trait this hobby is sorely missing today. You won't see every tag known here since I don't own them all. If anyone has a tag they would like to display drop me a message. I hope to be able to add to this section as I find them.

This hang tag is from the firm Ed. Wusthof / Dreizackwerk Solingen. The firm is also know for the "trident" logo. This was private purchased from a collector out of Pennsylvania. This tag was not on a dagger or bayonet. I want to thank Brian Maederer who hooked me up with a mint RAD Leader for this tag. So I have added this tag to the dagger, just so you know. The string is a tad weak so I just looped it around the top hanger section. My photo skills leave much to be desired but the leader piece is very fine and even exhibits blued pannels front and reverse. I would  add, that in researching the firm and the edged pieces they produced. I found Army minis that were cased and un-cased. I know Tom Wittman in his Army book made a late addition of a Carl Wusthof army dagger. This is not the same firm as Ed. Wusthof. I am curious if any collectors have seen a full sized Army by Ed.Wusthof? In 20+ years of collecting I never have. Never even seen mention of one. I wonder if the minis marked with "Alexanderwerk" were used only as cased distributor samples and no large full size examples exist?
This hang tag is from the firm Daniel Peres, Solingen. The trademark is the beer barrel with the spigot.  I purchased the dagger and hang tag together back in late 2004.The dagger was purchased from a local pocket knife collector. This man knew I was into german tagged pieces and hunted me down at gun show. This is a true "sock drawer" specimen. The hang tag shows storage wear and the dagger itself is not a true mint piece. The scabbard ring shows zero hang time. The hang tag was around the pommel nut. I removed it, and placed it on the carry ring, so the sharp edgedes would not cut into the string. D. Peres also made dress bayonets and it stands to reason their may be period NSKK's either factory or field upgrade re-painted scabbards or collector enhanced re-paints!

Well sometime's you get the bar sometimes the bar get's you! I was stoked about this tag till I got a look at it. Man, a Carl Peters Jr. hang tag. Sounds like I had found the lost temple, but when I checked it out... what to my wondering eyes did I see? Yip! post war. Well it was still a cool tag and so I sprung for it. Its really nice and I'll include it here. but considering the english language it was more than likely for export to the U.S. Still a rare bird. but its not a dagger hang tag. So I have clouded the air on the 1st page. Since this is a reference gallery, reference away. Not being a seasoned vet at this "Germany, warranted quality"
I would think should read Solingen, and possibly Garantie. So it is what it is. This tag reads the same on both sides.

This hang tag is from the firm Ernst Pack & Sohne Solingen, Siegfried Waffen. It shows the man swinging the hammer. The paper insert tag is pressed around and into the metal backing. The metal portion of the tag has a recess that the string run through. The reverse is also stamped D.R.P. down the center where the recess allows the string through. D.R.P. is also the symbol found on Postal Bayonets and frogs and also on Postal Protection Daggers. *This however is not the case here*
D.R.P. in this case stands for Deutsche Reichs Patent. More or less its a patent mark from the period. I won't go into the postal thing here. The string is really the heaviest of all  I have seen and this sucker is made damn well!
I know of another variant(type) where the metal portion of the tag is a copperish or very patinaed brass color. I am in contact with the owner and hope he allows me to post that type here also. This was purchased back in early 2002 from a gun dealer in Maryland. I purchased the hang tag strung on the frog stud of a minty E.Pack long bayonet.  Collector demand for E.Pack items is very high, I had seen one dealer offering a Pack tag for 550$ usd and it was gone in short order. Ernst Pack made a wide varity of edged pieces from dress daggers to combat bayonets.

This is a W.K.C.  factory hang tag.(WEYERSBERG  KIRCHBAUM &Cie WAFFENFABRIK,SOLINGEN, WALD). This hang tag was in The Mike Hansen collection. I purchased it from him in early 2000. This was the first tag I ever purchased. I did find a mint WKC stag gripped dress bayonet(short model) for this tag shortly after purchasing the tag. WKC made a wide range of items from dress daggers to bayonets.
Here are two shots of both types of hang tags together. In both photos the tag on the left shows the brass toned backing plate while the right hang tag shows the more zinc colored backing palte. Both tags are stamped D.R.P.
While the owner did not ask for credit I'll give it anyway. Thanks to DD Harris for these shots of his E.Pack hang tags!
This hang tag is from the firm Alcoso, also know as Alexander Coppel&son. I won't get into the finer points here, but some call it"alcosa" mistaking the last letter "o" as an "a". These photo colors are very close to the actual tag. I mention this as many tags by this firm are black and gold. As I have stated, I have not seen every tag(nor has the most advanced collector!)but this is the first tag I have seen with these colors. The other Alcoso hang tags I have seen or seen pictured were black bordered. Tom Johnson at Johnson Reference books sells the ones with the black outlined border. I can make no claim as to where those were found. I am in contact with a collector about picturing the other tpye of black bordered tag, and will post it as the photos are sent to me. I will show one side of the tag here as they are the same. I have added this tag to a mint late war hammered scabbard(and hammered rings) Alcoso"in script" 2nd. Model Navy dagger. I will give a plug here on the dagger. It's from Chip Gambino and was purchased back in September of 2001. I will always remember the dagger as it was held-up in the postal system in the days following the 9/11 attack. Alcoso made a wide range of edged pieces from bayonets to dress daggers.
